8 food to eat when you are sick.

It’s true that food can do much more than provide energy.
And when you’re sick, eating the right foods is more important than ever.
Certain foods have powerful properties that can support your body while it’s fighting an illness.
They may relieve certain symptoms and even help you heal more quickly.
These are the 15 best foods to eat when sick.

1. Chicken Soup

Chicken soup has been recommended as a remedy for the common cold for hundreds of years — and for good reason.
It’s an easy-to-eat source of vitamins, minerals, calories and protein, which are nutrients your body needs in larger quantities while you’re sick.
Chicken soup is also an excellent source of fluids and electrolytes, both of which are necessary for hydration if you’re making frequent trips to the bathroom.
Your body will also need even more fluids if you have a fever.
What’s more, one study found chicken soup to be more effective at clearing nasal mucus than any other liquid studied. This means it’s a natural decongestant, perhaps in part because it gives off hot steam.
Another reason for this effect is that chicken contains the amino acid cysteine. N-acetyl-cysteine, a form of cysteine, breaks apart mucus and has anti-viral, anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects.
Chicken soup also inhibits the action of neutrophils, which are white blood cells that may cause symptoms such as coughing and a stuffy nose.
Chicken soup’s ability to inhibit these cells could partially explain why it is so effective against some cold and flu symptoms.
Bottom Line: Chicken soup is a good source of fluids, calories, protein, vitamins and minerals. It is also a natural decongestant and may block cells that cause coughing and a stuffy nose.

2. Broths

Bowl of Broth
Similar to chicken soup, broths are excellent sources of hydration while you’re sick.
They’re full of flavor and can contain calories, vitamins and minerals such as magnesium, calcium, folate and phosphorous.
If you drink them while hot, broths also have the wonderful benefit of acting as a natural decongestant because of the hot steam.
Drinking broth is a good way to stay hydrated, and the rich flavors can help you feel satisfied. This is especially helpful if your stomach is unsettled and you are unable to keep down solid foods.
If you’re salt-sensitive and buy broth from the store, be sure to buy a low-sodium variety as most broths are very high in salt.
If you’re making broth from scratch, it may have even more benefits — including a higher calorie, protein and nutrient content.
Many people rave about the benefits of bone broth and claim it has many healing properties, although currently there are no studies on its benefits.
Bottom Line: Drinking broth is a delicious and nutritious way to stay hydrated, and it also acts as a natural decongestant when hot.

3. Garlic

Garlic
Garlic can provide all sorts of health benefits.
It has been used as a medicinal herb for centuries and has demonstrated antibacterial, antiviral and anti-fungal effects.
It can also stimulate the immune system.
Few high-quality human studies have explored the effects of garlic on the common cold or flu, but some have found promising results.
One study found that people who took garlic got sick less often. Overall, the garlic group spent about 70% fewer days sick than the placebo group.
In another study, people taking garlic not only got sick less often, but they got better 3.5 days faster than the placebo group, on average.
Additionally, several studies showed that aged garlic extract supplements can enhance immune function and decrease the severity of colds and the flu.
Adding garlic to chicken soup or broth can both add flavor and make them even more effective at fighting off cold or flu symptom.
Bottom Line: Garlic can fight bacteria, viruses and stimulate the immune system. It helps you avoid illness and recover faster when you get sick.

4. Coconut Water

Glass of Coconut Water with Straw and Flower
Staying well-hydrated is one of the most important things you can do when sick.
Hydration is especially important when you have a fever, sweat a lot or have vomiting or diarrhea, which can cause you to lose a lot of water and electrolytes.
Coconut waters the perfect beverage to sip on when you’re sick.
Besides being sweet and flavorful, it contains glucose and the electrolytes needed for re-hydration.
Studies show that coconut water helps you re-hydrate after exercise and mild cases of diarrhea. It also causes less stomach discomfort than similar drinks.
Additionally, several studies in animals found that coconut water contains antioxidants that can fight oxidative damage and may also improve blood sugar control.
However, one study found that it causes more bloating than other electrolyte beverages. It might be a good idea to begin slowly if you’ve never tried it.
Bottom Line: Coconut water has a sweet, delicious flavor. It provides the fluids and electrolytes you need to stay hydrated while sick.

5. Hot Tea

Brunette Holding a Cup of Tea
Tea is a favorite remedy for many symptoms associated with colds and the flu.
Just like chicken soup, hot tea acts as a natural decongestant, helping clear the sinuses of mucus. Note that tea needs to be hot to act as a decongestant, but it shouldn’t be so hot that it further irritates your throat.
You don’t need to worry about tea being dehydrating. Although some teas do contains caffeine, the amounts are far too small to cause any increased water loss.
This means that sipping on tea throughout the day is a great way to help you stay hydrated while relieving congestion at the same time.
Tea also contains polyphenols, which are natural substances found in plants that may have a large number of health benefits. These range from antioxidant and anti-inflammatory action to anti-cancer effects.
Tannins are one type of polyphenol found in tea. In addition to acting as antioxidants, tannins also have antiviral, antibacterial and anti-fungal properties.
One study in rats found that tannic acid in black tea could decrease the amount of a common type of bacteria that grows in the throat.
In another study, hibiscus tea reduced the growth of avian flu in a test tube. Echinacea tea also shortened the length of cold and flu symptoms.
In addition, several types of teas specifically developed to relieve cough or throat pain were shown to be effective in clinical studies.
All of these effects make tea an important part of your diet when you’re sick.
Bottom Line: Tea is a good source of fluids and acts as a natural decongestant when hot. Black tea can decrease the growth of bacteria in the throat, and echinacea tea may shorten the length of the cold or flu.

6. Honey

Open Jar of Honey
Honey has potent antibacterial effects, likely because of its high content of antimicrobial compounds.
In fact, it has such strong antibacterial effects that it was used in wound dressings by the ancient Egyptians, and is still used for this purpose today.
Some evidence suggests that honey can also stimulate the immune system.
These qualities alone make honey an excellent food to eat when sick, especially if you have a sore throat caused by a bacterial infection.
Many studies show that honey suppresses coughing in children. However, remember that honey should not be given to children under 12 months old.
Mix about half a teaspoon (2.5 ml) of honey with a warm glass of milk, water or a cup of tea. This is a hydrating, cough-soothing, antibacterial drink.
Bottom Line: Honey has antibacterial effects and stimulates the immune system. It can also help relieve coughing in children over 12 months of age.

7. Ginger

Fresh and Sliced GingerGinger is probably best known for its anti-nausea effects.
It has also been shown to effectively relieve nausea related to pregnancy and cancer treatment.
What’s more, ginger acts similar to non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. It has also demonstrated antioxidant, antimicrobial and anti-cancer effects.
So if you are feeling nauseous or throwing up, ginger is the best food available to relieve these symptoms. Even if you aren’t nauseous, ginger’s many other beneficial effects make it one of the top foods to eat when sick.
Use fresh ginger in cooking, brew some ginger tea or pick up some ginger ale from the store to get these benefits. Just make sure that whatever you’re using contains real ginger or ginger extract, not just ginger flavor.
Bottom Line: Ginger is very effective at relieving nausea. It also has anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects.

THE MUSLIM JESUS VS. THE JESUS OF THE HOLY BIBLE

THE MUSLIM QU’RAN DESCRIBES

A DIFFERENT JESUS THAN THE HOLY BIBLE DOES

In recent weeks, I have been in conversations with a pastor from a large Baptist church in Richmond, VA. He believes that Allah and our God are one and the same. He told me that Muslims see God through the lens of Muhammad, and that Christians see Him through the lens of Jesus Christ. This is heresy !!
I am writing this piece so that you can be equipped to speak truth to those who are deceived. If a head pastor of a church of over 1000 people believes this lie, then surely there are many others. I am so grieved over this — mostly for the people in the congregations of these wolves.
The teaching that the Jesus of the Holy Bible has anything in common at all with Islam is called Chrislam. It’s a demonic heresy, click to read more.
Because this pastor is not adhering to the Word of God, he is vulnerable to being deceived in most every area of Biblical teaching. He is close friends with Brian McLaren — the father of the Emerging Church movement. The Richmond pastor has meditation and centering and other New Age practices on his website. He also states that God may or may not be a female!
“ For the mystery of iniquity doth already work: only he who now letteth will let, until he be taken out of the way. And then shall that Wicked be revealed, whom the Lord shall consume with the spirit of his mouth, and shall destroy with the brightness of his coming: Even him, whose coming is after the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders, And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved.
And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie: That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness. But we are bound to give thanks alway to God for you, brethren beloved of the Lord, because God hath from the beginning chosen you to salvation through sanctification of the Spirit and belief of the truth: Whereunto he called you by our gospel, to the obtaining of the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Therefore, brethren, stand fast, and hold the traditions which ye have been taught, whether by word, or our epistle. Now our Lord Jesus Christ himself, and God, even our Father, which hath loved us, and hath given us everlasting consolation and good hope through grace, Comfort your hearts, and stablish you in every good word and work.”  – 2 Thessalonians 2:7-17
I will be taking passages from the Qur’an about Jesus – whom they call “Isa” and then I will post Scripture which will expose the passages from the Qur’an as counterfeit. Should it surprise us that Satan would establish this religion? Satan always takes a little bit of truth, and then perverts it with his lies. He has been doing this since being cast from heaven by God. Let’s begin at the beginning:
From the Qur’an about Abraham
  • “When his Lord tested Abraham with certain commands and he fulfilled them, He said, “I will make you a leader of men.” Abraham asked, “And what of my descendants?” He answered, “My covenant does not extend to the transgressors.” (124) And We made the House [the Ka’bah] a place of assembly and a sanctuary for mankind, [saying], “Make the place where Abraham stood a place of worship.” We commanded Abraham and Ishmael, “Purify My House for those who walk round it, those who stay there for devotion, and those who bow down and prostrate themselves.” (emphasis mine)
From the Bible about Abraham
“And God said unto Abraham, As for Sarai thy wife, thou shalt not call her name Sarai, but Sarah shall her name be. And I will bless her, and give thee a son also of her: yea, I will bless her, and she shall be a mother of nations; kings of people shall be of her. Then Abraham fell upon his face, and laughed, and said in his heart, Shall a child be born unto him that is an hundred years old? and shall Sarah, that is ninety years old, bear? And Abraham said unto God, O that Ishmael might live before thee! And God said, Sarah thy wife shall bear thee a son indeed; and thou shalt call his name Isaac: and I will establish my covenant with him for an everlasting covenant, and with his seed after him.. (Genesis 17:15-19) (emphasis mine)
Announcement to Mary from Qur’an:
  • He said: “Nay, I am only a messenger from thy Lord, (to announce) to thee the gift of a holy son. 20 She said: “How shall I have a son, seeing that no man has touched me, and I am not unchaste?” 21 He said: “So (it will be): Thy Lord saith, ‘that is easy for Me: and (We wish) to appoint him as a Sign unto men and a Mercy from Us’: It is a matter (so) decreed.” (19:19-21, Yusif Ali)
  • And (remember) her who guarded her chastity: We breathed into her of Our spirit, and We made her and her son a sign for all peoples. (21:91, Yusif Ali)
Announcement to Mary in the Bible:
“And in the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent from God unto a city of Galilee, named Nazareth, To a virgin espoused to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David; and the virgin’s name was Mary. And the angel came in unto her, and said, Hail, thou that art highly favoured, the Lord is with thee: blessed art thou among women.” (Luke 1:26-28)
He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Highest: and the Lord God shall give unto him the throne of his father David: And he shall reign over the house of Jacob for ever; and of his kingdom there shall be no end. (Luke 1:32-33) (Emphasis mine)
Jesus is a messenger (Prophet) in Qur’an:
  • “He said: “I am indeed a servant of Allah: He hath given me revelation and made me a prophet.”(19:30, Yusif Ali)
  • “O People of the Book! Commit no excesses in your religion: Nor say of Allah aught but the truth. Christ Jesus the son of Mary was (no more than) a messenger of Allah, and His Word, which He bestowed on Mary, and a spirit proceeding from Him: so believe in Allah and His messengers. Say not “Trinity” : desist: it will be better for you: for Allah is one Allah: Glory be to Him: (far exalted is He) above having a son. To Him belong all things in the heavens and on earth. And enough is Allah as a Disposer of affairs. (4:171, Yusif Ali) (emphasis mine)
Christ the son of Mary was no more than a messenger; many were the messengers that passed away before him. His mother was a woman of truth. They had both to eat their (daily) food. See how Allah doth make His signs clear to them; yet see in what ways they are deluded away from the truth!” (5:575, Yusif Ali)
Jesus is God in the Bible:
“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. In him was life; and the life was the light of men. And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not..” (John 1:1-5)
“And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.” (John 1:14)
The Crucifixion denied in the Qur’an:
  • “That they said (in boast), “We killed Christ Jesus the son of Mary, the Messenger of Allah”;- but they killed him not, nor crucified him, but so it was made to appear to them, and those who differ therein are full of doubts, with no (certain) knowledge, but only conjecture to follow, for of a surety they killed him not.” (4:157,Yusif Ali)
The Crucifixion told in the Bible:
“And he bearing his cross went forth into a place called the place of a skull, which is called in the Hebrew Golgotha: Where they crucified him, and two other with him, on either side one, and Jesus in the midst. And Pilate wrote a title, and put it on the cross. And the writing was Jesus Of Nazareth The King Of The Jews. This title then read many of the Jews: for the place where Jesus was crucified was nigh to the city: and it was written in Hebrew, and Greek, and Latin.” (John 19:17-20)
“After this, Jesus knowing that all things were now accomplished, that the scripture might be fulfilled, saith, I thirst. Now there was set a vessel full of vinegar: and they filled a spunge with vinegar, and put it upon hyssop, and put it to his mouth. When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, It is finished: and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost.” (John 19:28-30)
You are cursed if you say Jesus is God’s Son in Qur’an:
  • The Jews call ‘Uzair a son of Allah, and the Christians call Christ the son of Allah. That is a saying from their mouth; (in this) they but imitate what the unbelievers of old used to say. Allah’s curse be on them: how they are deluded away from the Truth! (9:30, Yusif Ali)
  • “Such (was) Jesus the son of Mary: (it is) a statement of truth, about which they (vainly) dispute. 35 It is not befitting to (the majesty of) Allah that He should beget a son. Glory be to Him! when He determines a matter, He only says to it, “Be”, and it is.” (19:34-35, Yusif Ali) (Emphasis mine)
Jesus – Son of God in the Bible:
“Verily, verily, I say unto you, The hour is coming, and now is, when the dead shall hear the voice of the Son of God: and they that hear shall live.” (John 5:25)
“Say ye of him, whom the Father hath sanctified, and sent into the world, Thou blasphemest; because I said, I am the Son of God?” (John 10:36)
“When Jesus heard that, he said, This sickness is not unto death, but for the glory of God, that the Son of God might be glorified thereby.” (John 11:4)
“ But he held his peace, and answered nothing. Again the high priest asked him, and said unto him, Art thou the Christ, the Son of the Blessed? And Jesus said, I am: and ye shall see the Son of man sitting on the right hand of power, and coming in the clouds of heaven.” (Mark 14:61-62)
Brethren, please keep this article for a reference. Satan is roaming about in this world, deceiving and confusing people. The Word of God reigns supreme in the lives of Christians. Always use it to know truth!
“ All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works.” (2 Timothy 3:16-17)

Shovel-Tusker Was Actually a Saw

The prehistoric elephant used its shovel-shaped mouth to cut, not scoop
One look at Platybelodon and you know why the beast has been called a shovel-tusker. The publication describing one of the most abundant species, Platybelodon grangeri, even went so far as to illustrate the lower jaw of one of these fossil elephants next to a shovel in case the resemblance wasn't immediately clear. But appearances can deceive. As it turns out, Platybelodon wasn't a shovel-tusker. It may have been more of a saw-tusker.

You can hardly fault 20th century paleontologists for plunkingPlatybelodon in swamps where the behemoth could scoop up great mouthfuls of soft plants and algae. That's simply what it looked like it should be doing. But in 1992paleontologist David Lambert suggesting something that went against the grain. After studying the teeth of scoop-mouthed elephants such as Platybelodon and Amebelodon, Lambert concluded that the microscopic damage on their teeth indicated that these beasts were scraping bark or even rubbing plants against their flattened incisors to cut them.

Now paleontologist Gina Semprebon and colleagues have confirmed what Lambert suggested over two decades ago. Drawing from an entire growth series of Platybelodon grangeri from the 15-11 million year old deposits of Linxia Basin, China, the researchers looked for scratches, pits, scars, and other damage that are associated with different diets. An animal that grazes on tough grasses, for example, will show a different pattern of damage than one that eats soft leaves. In the case of this extinct elephant, what the paleontologists found was at odds with the classic image ofPlatybelodon plowing its squared-off tusks through the muck.

The constellation of scratches and pits on Platybelodon molars, Semprebon and coauthors found, resembled the pattern seen on today's African forest elephant. Platybelodon likely browsed on leaves, although differences between the youngsters and adults hints that the older elephants ate coarser vegetation and twigs more often.

As for those peculiar lower tusks, there were no gaping gouges or scars as would be expected if the mammal used its mouth as a shovel. Instead it seems that the wear on Platybelodon tusks fits Lambert's idea that these elephants were stripping bark from trees or even using their trunks to rub vegetation against their lower tusks, shredding it into smaller morsels.

Just imagine it - a massive elephant scraping its shovel-shaped mouth against a fallen tree trunk, taking in a mouthful of twigs and leaves. And ifPlatybelodon was stranger than we ever expected, the same might be true of the other elephants previously considered "shovel-tuskers."Amebelodon from North America, for example, had longer, narrower lower tusks, and just this year Lambert named a new and little-known speciesfrom Oregon that's  "unusual" compared to all the others. What were these elephants doing? How did they live? To find out, paleontologists will have to look them in the mouth.

Experts Warn That Zika Could Spread to Southern Europe This Summer

The Zika virus could spread in southern Europe this summer if it’s introduced to the region by infected travelers, researchers warn.
Zika is transmitted by the Aedes aegypti mosquito, which is present in southern Europe. An analysis of a number of factors, including temperatures and air traveler patterns, suggests that parts of southern Europe may be at risk for Zika outbreaks between June and August.
“We know warm climates create the kind of conditions suitable for mosquito-borne illnesses to spread,” said study author Joacim Rocklov. He is a researcher in the unit for epidemiology and global health at Umea University, in Sweden.
While most people only suffer mild symptoms after being infected with the Zika virus, infection during pregnancy can cause a devastating birth defect known as microcephaly, where babies are born with abnormally small heads and brains.
The vast majority of Zika infections have occurred in Latin America, and Brazil has been the epicenter with an estimated 5,000 cases of microcephaly.
“The presence of established Aedes mosquito populations, the warmer climate and the coinciding peak flow of air travelers [from Zika-affected areas in the Americas] into Europe is a triage making southern Europe fertile ground for Zika,” Rocklov explained in a university news release.
The study was published June 10 in the journal EBioMedicine.
While Zika is typically spread via the bite of the Aedesmosquito, there is increasing evidence that the virus can also be transmitted through sex, possibly even oral sex.
In light of that, the World Health Organization advises couples who are trying to have children and live in Zika-affected areas to consider delaying pregnancy to avoid having babies born with birth defects.
The new guideline replaces an earlier one that suggested women planning to become pregnant should wait at least eight weeks before trying to conceive if they or their partner live in—or are returning from—Zika-affected regions.
There have been no reports of Zika-induced microcephaly contracted in the United States. But two babies have been born in the United States with the birth defect after their mothers contracted the virus while traveling during pregnancy in countries where Zika is active.
U.S. health officials have said they expect to see Zika infections in Gulf Coast states such as Florida, Louisiana and Texas as the summer mosquito season picks up.

What Killed Japan's Hitomi X-Ray Satellite?

On February 17th, a new X-ray satellite observatory launched from Japan’s Tanegashima Space Centre. Named "Hitomi" meaning "Eye pupil" in Japanese, the observatory was set to explore the nature of super-massive black holes and even the origin of the mysterious dark matter.
Five weeks after launch everything was going smoothly. Hitomi was making trial observations and transitioning from the highly supervised commissioning mode to regular operation. Just after 3:00 AM JST on Saturday March 26th, Hitomi performed its first maneuver without continual monitoring from Earth. Instead, scientists at the Japanese Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) waited for Hitomi to re-establish radio contact as its orbit swept over Japan’s ground stations in Spain and Australia. The satellite was scheduled to check in with the Australia station at 4:40 PM. But the call never came.
Telescopes on the ground scanned the skies for Hitomi, and finally spotted debris close to the observatory’s expected location—not a good sign. Still, JAXA engineers kept trying to reach Hitomi over the next few weeks. But in the end, they were forced to admit defeat. Just two months after its launch, the $273 million satellite was declared lost.
What followed was a month-long investigation by JAXA, culminating in a 103- page report released early this month. The verdict: Hitomi wasn’t hit by a stray meteor or a piece of space junk. Instead, the document detailed a fatal cascade of problems in scrupulous detail. The satellite was doomed by short-cuts and human error.
Hitomi’s problems began after the fateful maneuver on March 26th that swung the telescope from looking at the Crab Nebula to observing the nucleus of a galaxy thought to harbor a supermassive black hole. Directly after the move, the satellite’s gyroscope-based attitude sensor erroneously believed that the spacecraft was still rotating. Hitomi’s designers had anticipated that this would happen, so they’d added a second attitude monitor that oriented the observatory by tracking the positions of known bright stars.
Here was where the errors began to creep in. The star tracker was set to notice only stars above a certain minimum brightness—but the threshold was set too high, which meant it couldn’t find enough stars to do a proper orientation. By the time enough bright stars appeared in its detector, the star tracker and the gyroscope were reporting major discrepancies in which way they thought Hitomi was pointing. In cases like this, Hitomi was programmed to issue a warning to ground controllers, but reject the star tracker data in favor of the gyroscope.
Unfortunately, since Hitomi had just graduated from commissioning mode, controllers had stopped watching so carefully, and the warning flag was overlooked. Accepting the gyroscope’s conclusion that Hitomi was spinning, the observatory’s electric reaction wheels kicked in, attempting to counter the rotation. But since it wasn’t spinning in the first place, this put the satellite into an actual spin, which got faster and faster. At this point, Hitomi went into safe mode and awaited instructions from Earth.
Hitomi still could have been saved by onboard rocket thrusters that were capable of realigning the satellite—and now came a second set of errors. When controllers uploaded instructions to the thrusters, they turned out to be incorrect. This could have been caught if the instructions had been tested on a computer simulation of Hitomi, but no checks were in place to confirm this had been done. The thrusters fired, making Hitomi spin even faster—and ultimately beyond its breakup point. The observatory disintegrated.
The loss of a major mission is not without political consequences. Three JAXA executives have chosen to take a salary cut for four months as a direct result of Hitomi’s failure, and there may be a further backlash in the form of reduced funds for future missions. But by publicly dissecting the problems, JAXA hopes to correct issues within their own program and prevent this happening to any other mission.
Hitomi was part of an international collaboration that included NASA and ESA, and neither of those agencies is a stranger to lost missions. Space is unforgiving and any mistake can be fatal. The best we can do is share these errors to minimize the chance of them happening again.
